Before we properly start looking at EVH's specific style, we will do a short 3 lesson primer to show you how to properly tap using 1 and 2 strings. Be sure to work through this section before tackling the first EVH solo!
There are a few things to remember when you are learning how to tap cleanly and smoothly, all of which Jay takes you through nice a slowly in the video. Our focus in the lesson is to get you to play a simple 3 note finger-tapping pattern, as shown in the guitar tab section.
Let's now take it up a notch and add a 4th note into our finger tapping repertoire, which is once again using the same notes as the previous lick. Remember to take it nice and slowly and really focus on the clarity of each note. As Jay always says, "speed is a by-product of accuracy", so bear that in mind!
Once you have the single string exercises together, we can expand this by moving over to a 2 string tap, which is much harder.
This exercise is simply based around the A minor pentatonic scale, using shape 1 and shape 2, as shown in the fretboard diagrams. Try to always picture the scale shapes you are using as you work through the exercises.
