Welcome to Rhythm & Chords Intermediate Essentials Part 4! This set of lessons will really get your brain working as we test your CAGED chord skills. Then we'll tackle the hardest song to date, featuring arpeggiated CAGED chords, major and minor CAGED shapes and new rhythm patterns to sink your teeth into. All in all this course is challenging but a lot of fun, so get your guitar plugged in and here we go!
This lesson is all about testing your ability to find CAGED chord shapes. For example, "Can you find the G major chord based on the D string?"
As you'll see from the video, this song has a lot of challenges! "Living In Another Dream" uses arpeggiated chords for the chorus, plenty of CAGED chord shapes, and some new rhythm patterns! Plus, it's all pretty quick! So, enjoy the song and watch the entire video, then move on to the next video where we'll start breaking it down.
The first challenge in this song is playing the arpeggiated CAGED chords. Let's start by going through the chord shapes in the fretboard diagrams and working out what it is you actually need to play.
During the verse, we have to tackle both the chord shapes and a new rhythm pattern. Let's begin by looking at the chord shapes in the fretboard diagrams, then the chord chart below.
The rhythm during the verses is very specific and includes muted notes. Looking at the rhythm pattern below, the "4" and "4+" are both muted notes where you release the pressure of the chord.
Lastly, let's take a look at the bridge chords. Remember, you only need to play one strum on each of the bridge chords, and it loops around twice.
Here is the entire chord chart, including all the sections we have worked on. This will allow you to piece together the whole song.
