The base of our tone is using a Fender 65 Deluxe reverb style preset in TONEX by IK Multimedia. With Cory Wong we're looking for a nice clean tone, plenty of headroom and an extremely compressed sound. As you can see from the compressor image below, the Threshold is almost 100%, which means it takes no prisoners. Every single note is of equal dynamic value, including all the ghost notes!

For both rhythm and lead we used a Strat style guitar and most importantly, used the 2nd position (which interestingly Cory calls the 4th position). To clarify, it is the position just before the neck pick up, blending the middle and neck pick up together.
For the lead guitar part, we are playing in the key of G major and mainly using two scale boxes in that key. We're using the G major scale Box 4 and Box 1, as pictured in the fretboard diagrams. Note also that we are generally playing staccato notes (meaning not held for long) and in the final harmony line, we are also palm muting the notes.
It's also really worth outlining the main chord progression, so that the tab makes bit more sense as you are working through it.
