ANOTHER GUITAR SHOW (SEASON 2)
Before tackling this course, you should be comfortable with all the material from Episode 23 - 12 Bar Blues For Beginners (Part 1)

Summary: Moving Keys

In this second episode of the mini series, Andy and Thomas talk about how to easily change key and know exactly how to play your 12 bar blues progression. It's such a simple concept, but one that can cause a lot of confusion... So we break it down nice and slowly for all beginners!

Chords: Power chord shapes

The main thing we need to be able to apply this principal is the powerchord shapes. If you've never tackled these shapes before then check out this course: Powerchords & The Blues. The shapes allow us to essentially play what we played in the E shuffle (last episode), but now anywhere on the neck. Here is an example tab for the C powerchord with the cool shuffle sound, as well as the two main powerchord shapes we need (one on E string and one on the A string)

Progression: The pattern

Now then, to get the 12 bar pattern we learnt last time (previous episode), we simply need to learn two types of pattern on the neck. The two patterns below should remind you of a sort of 'L' shape going in two directions. The boys demonstrate it nice and clearly in the video.

    REMEMBER: TWO OPTIONS

Option 1. You play the 1 chord on the E string (powerchord shape), 4 chord one string down and same fret & 5 chord two frets across from there.
Option 2. You play the 1 chord on the A string (powerchord shape), 4 chord one string up and 2 frets back & 5 chord two frets across from there.

Lead: Moving The Minor pentatonic

If you are looking to try and play a little lead over the top, the minor pentatonic position 1 is a great place to start! All you need to do to put this in the right key is move the root note (first note) to the key of the track on the E string. For example, if the track is in the key of C, move the shape to the 8th fret and off you go. Here are some examples:

All done?
