Summary: Perfectly Wrong

In this guitar lesson Simone adapts the beautiful piano part for the acoustic guitar. This is a great exercise as it forces us to play chords shapes that are unfamiliar and therefore force us out of our comfort zone! It's a great song and a great guitar part, so let's get learning!

The Chords: The main loop

Firstly, we need to add the capo to the 5th fret. The main chords are F major, G major, A minor 7th and C major... Basically! However, as they are based on piano voicings we need to slightly alter the chords so that you pick specific notes in a specific order. Here is the way Simone is playing those chords:

The Chords: Pre Chorus

The only real change in the track is during the pre chorus. At this point we need some diifferent chord shapes as well as a different groove. We are going from treble to bass (just as a pianist would go from right to left hand) to create the sound. The chords are:

Easy Version: Strumming Open chords

If you prefer to just strum through the track, then you can use basic open chord shapes with the F major barre chord (or open F major if you prefer), with all downstrokes. It would look like this:

    Keep Learning: Fingerstyle!

If you love the sound of this track but struggle with the arpeggio sections, you may want to take a look at our Travis picking course, where we introduce you to fingerstyle playing. It's a full course, and totally free (As is everything on the site). You can find it here: Travis Picking Guitar Lesson Course.

This Shawn Mendes hit has a really cool fingerpicked guitar part that shows you a slightly different way to play through chord shapes, rather than your usual barre chord or open shapes. This lesson will stand you in good stead for creative songwriting for sure!
