Summary: Big God

This is a stand out track from the 2018 album High As Hope. It's a great one to play on the guitar as it just uses powerchord shapes, even though it is originally played on the piano by the sounds of it! Simone skill-fully guides you through it.

The Chords: Power chords!

This song basically features one main loop using powerchords. The powerchords are D5, Bb5 and C5. We are using the same shape for all three chords, but we are moving it up and down the fretboard. Here are those chords:

Rhythm: 2 beats per chord

For the rhythm it is very simple. We are playing the chords on the 1st beat and 3rd beat of each bar, plus we have the two little melody lines between the C5 and and D5 chord. The rhythm therefore looks like this:

The Chords: Alternate chords

As Simoen mentions, if you want to make this more of an acoustic rhythmical song, you can turn the powerchords into full chords. You would therefore play Dm, Bb major and C major. You can play those chords as shown below:

    Keep Learning: Powerchords

Many thanks for watching this video and visiting the website. If you love this tune, but find some of the chords quite hard to follow, check out our powerchord course right here on the site. We take you through all the shapes and how to change the chords quickly and cleanly. We also learn the theory behind the chords and apply them to some great tunes! You can check it out here: Powerchords Guitar Course.
