Featuring one of the most iconic rock riffs ever written, this is a must-have song in your repertoire. In this set of lessons, we cover the riff and the lead part, covering each aspect in great detail to ensure you learn all the subtitles as well the main chords and licks!
Let's take a look at the chord shapes that you will need as you play through this track. It is all based around an A major chord and essentially rotates between an A and D major chord. There are plenty of other shapes to consider as you go through the track, all of which shown here. Follow Ollie along in the video to see exactly where you play them in the track.
This solo is rooted in the key of A major and therefore using the A major pentatonic for the majority. However, towards the end, in a classic rock style, the solo switches to the minor pentatonic scale. In general, if you are choosing to jam over this track, you can definitely combine the two scales to get that classic rock sound. Use the major for the more melodic, sweeter sounds, and use the minor for the more aggressive sounds. Here are those two scales.
All done?
