This super cool rock track from Mr Big features Paul Gilbert at his best. The song includes that awesome intro tapping riff, some massive chunky chords and more! In this lesson, we are learning that intro riff as it's so much fun to play and will really help with your tapping skills on one string.
As you can see from the play through we are basically just using 3 strings here, with finger-tapping and a lot of legato playing. Ollie takes you through each lick one by one, but we can start by knowing the key and the scale shape. We are basically using the E major scale, but all on a couple of strings. If you would like to see the notes you are using, and relate them to the scale, here they are:
Although the tapping is tricky in this track, the rhythm is nice and easy! You are simply playing all the notes as 16th notes consecutively. Like a lot of Paul Gilbert stuff, it's more about the speed and note choice rather than the phrasing of any of these notes. So, once you have the parts together, you just simply play them all together without any break! Have fun!
All done?
Congratulations
