This classic Stevie Wonder track is probably one of the most played guitar riffs of all time... Even though it is originally a keys riff! It just lends itself perfectly to the guitar, so it's well worth learning. Thomas guides you through every part of the song, as well as the riff.
The main riff is basically using the Eb blues scale in position 3 (or as Thomas may call it, the C shape position). The riff can be divided into two sections, the main part fromthe start, and then the alternate riff where more trumpets come into the track! Here is the scale shape we are using.
As we move into the main chorus ("when you believe in things..."). We now are using some really cool chord shapes and inversions. The chords are all played once each and held until the next. The chords are as follows:
