This brand new hit from Ariana Grande is such a cool track to play on the guitar. It uses a range of 7th chords as well as a really nice right hand fingerstyle technique to get some real groove into your playing. Simone walks you through it all at a nice steady pace!
In this track we are using some really cool chord shapes, all of which are 7th chords. This will really help you expand your chord vocabulary, so take your time getting the shapes learnt!
As there is no guitar in the record, we can mimic the bass and drum groove with a fingerstyle pattern and percussive effects. The pattern in arrows (if you wanted to strum it), looks like this:
When we hit the chorus we bring in a new chord called the F7b5. This is a really cool altered chord. Simone suggests the best way to play this on the guitar, and it looks like this (see below). Importantly >> theory alert!! << The f7b5 is essentially the Adim7 chord with an F in the bass. So if you are playing with a bass player and they are playing the F, you ust need to play the Adim7 again, as usual. Another cool ting is that you can play the Gbmaj7 in a different position.
All done?
Congratulations
