The Weeknd has burst into the charts in the last few years with a modern day Michael Jackson style vocal and songwriting ability. As guitarists, his songs are often first on the set list at function band sets across the world, so it's important to get them together. The Weeknd does enjoy a good rock guitar sound in his records as well, so there is plenty of fun to be had learning these great modern pop songs.
Call Out My Name
This is just another example from The Weeknd that proves that you can make a quality pop record with just two chords! Yep, this song only uses two chords over a 6/8 time signature. Dan takes you through the chords, rhythm and beginners version in this guitar lesson.
Try Me
This is a really cool song from the album My Dear Melancholy, and in this live recorded guitar lesson Dan walks you through the 4 main chords of the track, firstly for beginner players, then for intermediate players (including some cool delays and reverbs to really bring it to life).
Wasted Times
This is the third record from The Weeknd's 'My Dear Melancholy,' album (2018) and it continues to demonstrate his ability to write unbelievably catchy melodies over 3 or 4 basic chords. In this track we are using a lot of 7th chords, as well as some lovely melody notes that we can place on top of the chords if you are looking for a challenge! Don't worry though, we'll also work through a total beginners version!
The Morning
This chilled out track from the weekend is a great lesson for beginners who want to practice their open chord shapes and really master a basic fingerstyle arrangement that you can use over and over again with this style of music!
I Feel It Coming
The Weeknd and Daft Punk is a true match made in heaven, and as always with Daft Punk, we have some really cool funky guitar chords that Thomas demonstrates in this lesson. It's great if you want to improve your funky chops!
Blinding Lights
The Weeknd is at his synth pop best here, with another great 4 chord masterpiece. For us guitar players we can learn a relatively easy was to strum through this track, as well as learn that really cool pentatonic melody.
